![]() ![]() Its my usual go to date night when I just want to chill without getting all dressed up. please offer something to those whole serve/served this country. (maybe not these days, but back when they made us feel safe) You raise the prices and then cut the number of movies available. thats like QUICK TRIP offering free coffee all day for cops, because they welcome their presence. You are located near military bases, in the SOUTH SIDE OF ATL ON MORELAND AVE. Maybe half price, or a few bucks less, maybe just every other weekend, week nights only SOMETHING. but when we use to go with our friends, there would be us and other cars with Military guys in them.who doesnt feel safer knowing you have military personnel near by. Im making complaints, BUT SUGGESTIONS TOO. This was a long over due complaint that I am just now getting to, so SORRY its so long. Movies that are cinema hits, are getting shown for short periods of time, when you switch the movies over, put the older ones over there. If you dont want to open the 2nd concession, then Dont, just make the bathrooms available and keep the concessions closed. youre playing scary or R rated movies on the one side, got a WHOLE other side closed down and could be putting kids movies over there. Like right now, NO KIDS MOVIES BEING PLAYED, but storks JUST CAME OUT. The movie options are VERY LIMITED which doesnt make sense, since they have 3 other screens and now movies that should be, in my opinion, being played longer (more weekends in a row) but arent. There are rust streaks running down the screen and can seriously mess with the overall picture, and screen one seems out of focus. The screens, especially screen 1, (we go to the drive in QUITE OFTEN) needs repainting. And then they closed down the other side (Screens 4-6) so now, the same amount of people on a friday night, are fighting for spots between 3 screens. Thats Fine, we said, since we can still see two movies for the price of one. We used to enjoy the military discount, as my husband is a Vet, but they no longer offer that. In the past few years, when the owners or management switched over, I noticed a lot of changes, most of which arent great for business. shortly after moving down I had 2 boys, one of which is AUTISTIC and can have random outbursts so the drive in is perfect because you dont have to worry about bothering people with things like kids being kids. MY FAVORITE THING I found down here was the drive in. I hope the Starlight 6 Drive in Management actually sees this post. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After being incarcerated since October 2021, Murdaugh's murder trial began in January 2023 and ended in March 2023 with Murdaugh being found guilty of murdering his wife and son and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole. You might say that his useful insight is that the more you engage your audience’s intellect at the expense of his sensual enjoyment, the more you risk becoming resistible. ![]() You will gather that I’m not altogether sympathetic with him either. Poetry and music, which he thought required far less intellectual activity to enjoy (set aside production of either one for the moment), are for him more sensually enjoyed and therefore a more powerful experience. The more artificial that becomes (as with, say, architecture, which we must read in time and place and inside culture and inside nature all at once) or the more it requires symbolism to situate itself, the less powerful it is aesthetically. Those things that happen innately are such things as rhythm (because we organize the chaos of experience naturally into temporal structures). If I remember correctly, his concern is about the activity of the mind. It’s been a while since I read Dewey’s aesthetics (and then under threat of failing an American philosophy seminar), so take this with a grain of salt, but…. I really want to understand what he means before I dismiss it. Lastly, what makes a piece of art purely intellectual? If we include music into the category of "art that can be intellectual", is Bach's clever navigation through the key centers and developments of a theme intellectual art? Schönberg's attempt to demolish the value hierarchy of each pitch? David Bowie's criticism of society? Secondly, is he distinguishing all of music from something that can be intellectual art? Firstly, how does an Aesthetic Experience -not- consist of signs and/or symbols that doesn't hold intrinsic value on their own? Does he think a major 7th chord is valuable in itself? There are several things I struggle with in this claim. He goes on to claim that this distinction is part of the reason why "intellectual art will never be as popular as music". He writes that a Thought Experience will consist of signs and/or symbols with no intrinsic value of their own, that may be experienced qualitatively as part of Thought Experiences, whereas an Aesthetic Experience will consist of qualities that holds values of their own. In page 198 of John Dewey's "Art as Experience" (1934) he makes a distinction between Thought Experiences and Aesthetic Experiences. ![]() ![]() Please look to the Alabama Department of Public Health or the CDC website & bulletin for accurate and up-to-date information.Ĭardiology Associates of West Alabama, P.C. ![]() ![]() If you’re not a Christian, take a little nap, and you can tune in later. And a word of warning: this first part of my sermon is addressed to people who are already Christians. Suppose a Jesus fan wanted to know where they could go in order to get the full ‘Jesus Christ’ experience.” We’d forgive them for thinking that the institution that Jesus founded, which exists to honor him, bear witness to him, carry on his mission-an institution that is bold enough-some might say presumptuous enough-to call itself the Body of Christ would be the obvious place to go. You don’t have to be a follower of Jesus, after all, to admire him-and Jesus has many admirers from other faith traditions and among people who aren’t religious at all. As Lisa told me after we left: “I’m not feeling the Mayberry spirit!” And she was right!Īnd I got to thinking: There are many fans of Jesus in the world. And no one minded at all when we turned around and left… just like a family had done a minute earlier, when we got there. No one told us that if we’d kindly wait, they’d love to seat us as soon as a table became available. ![]() Instead, one of the waitresses shot a look in our direction that said, “Ugh! What are we going to do with you people?” No one was happy that we were there. We were happy to wait a little while, but no one greeted us. We walked into one restaurant around lunchtime, and there was no room at any of the tables. For example, when you walk into a restaurant on Main Street in Mayberry, don’t you expect someone to welcome you the way “Aint” Bee might welcome you to Sunday dinner? And if there was no room at the dinner table because Barney and Thelma Lou showed up before you got there, don’t you think Aint Bee would pull up a chair for you and clear a spot for you and be cheerful while doing it? Of course she would! You want them and every other fan of the show all around the world to know that this is the place that they simply must come in order to have the authentic “Andy Griffith” experience-and they’ll spend a lot of money on food, lodging, and tacky souvenirs while they’re here!Īnd in this regard, I’m afraid the town doesn’t go nearly far enough. It’s completely hokey, completely cornball, completely cheesy, of course… But you know what? If you’re going to be Mayberry, be Mayberry all the way, you know? Go all out! Embrace your inner Goober! There are Andy Griffith Show fans as far away as Japan. We ate at a place called Barney’s Cafe-and there were of course pictures of Barney Fife everywhere. Nearly every shop and restaurant has either Mayberry in the name or a name that’s related to the show. You can tour the town in a vintage 1961 Ford police cruiser, just like Andy Taylor and Barney Fife drove on the show. A lot of his work has this effect he calls it liquid architecture. “I wanted the building to disappear,” Aitken says. ![]() It was a museum exhibit you visited, sure, but inside out. It was a crooning love ballad, yet its characters were mostly alone, never interacting, constantly traveling but never arriving. It gave viewers a gentle “fear of missing out”: They couldn’t see all of it at once, so they had to walk its periphery, knowing they weren’t seeing the whole. Like many of Aitken’s works, it felt like a monument-both majestic and unsettling-to our iPhone-and-flatscreen-TV-bedecked modern world of high tech distractions and connections. In Aitken’s piece, called Song1, dozens of eclectic characters-a young female worker in a factory, a set of women in choir robes, a man driving at night-sang the Tin Pan Alley classic “I Only Have Eyes for You.” In between versions of the song, Aitken intercut spooky, pretty images of isolation and technology: A silhouetted woman walking through an empty parking lot, cars racing along a highway at night, a reel-to-reel tape machine.Ĭrowds gathered in the National Mall to wander around the building and see the whole thing. That includes individual blowers to cool down motors and a machine room design that maximizes conductive cooling. As night fell, a set of 11 precisely synced, high-intensity movies covered the surface of the Hirshhorn in a single, continuously looping 35-minute film. ACS-64 is built to do steady self-diagnostics. The locomotive could recover about 15 percent of its electricity use through regenerative braking. The locomotive has positive train control, which can slow down the train automatically if the driver is not able to. Siemens gushes about the new tech it built into the Sprinter. That should keep the trains running on time. With that much get-up-and-go, Amtrak promises, the ACS-64 will get its 217,000-pound weight, plus the weight of all those cars it pulls, up to the Northeast Corridor speed limit of 125 miles per hour faster than anything they've ever had. The 64 in the name refers to the locomotive's output of 6.4 megawatts, which works out to about 8600 horsepower. ![]() (ACS stands for Amtrak Cities Sprinter.) Built by Siemens, 70 of these locomotives will go into service to replace their aging predecessors on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor line that connects Boston to Washington D.C. No less a locomotive enthusiast than Vice President Joe Biden traveled to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia this morning for the inauguration of the ACS-64. Starting tomorrow, though, it hopes that one new workhorse will haul American trains in the future. Amtrak will freely admit it has used a patchwork of locomotives to pull its trains over the last three or four decades, and those locomotives have racked up nearly four million hard-earned miles. ![]() ![]() ![]() She completed her PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London in June 2022.
